Everything You Need to Know About Voting

Vote now

Voting Week is in full swing on campus, giving you the chance to decide who will be leading MDXSU next year. Elected students will be responsible for making the changes that you want to see at MDX, so it’s really important that you vote, and you vote wisely!

Vote for someone whose policies you agree with and who you feel has the power to make those ideas a reality. If you don’t vote, you might find yourself being represented by someone who you wouldn't have voted for. The voting margins between the winners and those who come second can be really narrow - your vote could make all the difference.

Read on for all you need to know about voting in the MDXSU Elections!

1. Read the Manifestos

A manifesto tells you who a candidate is and their key aims if elected. You might already have a candidate in mind, but remember that you can also list your second preference of candidate, and third or fourth and so on, so it’s worth taking a look at the competition too. Click here to view your candidates and their manifestos online, or come to one of our voting stations to pick up a manifesto booklet!

2. Ask Questions!

Maybe you’re brimming with enthusiasm for a candidate’s ideas, or you want to find out how they're going to carry out their promises? Bring your questions and opinions along to one of our two Question Time events! The first will be in The Quad on Monday 2nd March, 6pm – 8pm. The second will take place in MDX House on Wednesday 4th, 2pm – 4pm.

3. Get Tweeting

We’ll be hosting a live Twitter Q&A session after Question Time on Wednesday 4th. Simply tag your questions with #mdxsuqt and candidates will answer them as best as they can in 140 characters.

4. Find them on Facebook

Your candidates are all over social media, so keep an eye out for their Facebooks, Twitters, SnapChats... It's a great way to find out more about their manifesto - nothing like communicating your policies via the media of song. Talking of social media, you can keep up to date with elections news on our Facebook and Twitter too. So much procrastination potential.

5. Speed CandiDATEing

We know that MDX students are a busy bunch, and that you might not have time to speak to all your candidates in person. To help you out, we’ll be releasing bite-sized video clips of the candidates telling you why they deserve your all-important vote. Take 30 seconds out of your Facebook-scrolling, Tinder-swiping or bus-based people-watching to have a watch –  we'll be uploading them to www.mdxsu.com.

6. Know how to Vote

We use preferential voting, which means that as well as your favourite candidate for each position, you’ll also get to list the other candidates in order of preference! When you select your candidates, your first choice will be marked with a ‘1’, your second with a '2', and so on. Voting can be very close, so your second and third choices can decide who wins.

7. Know where to Vote!

During the day between 11am Monday 2nd March and midday on Friday 6th March, you’ll be able to vote at one of four student polling stations around the Hendon campus. These can be found in The Grove, The Quad, the Williams Building and Hatchcroft. You can also vote online 24/7 by clicking here!

Happy voting! If you have any other questions, please email studentvoice@mdx.ac.uk and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
