Interested in a career or further studies within natural sciences? Want to know more about where your science degree could take you? Don't miss the first ever Natural Sciences Career Expo on Tuesday 24th March.

It's a common misconception that working as a scientist is just about white coats and laboratories. In reality, the work place of a scientist has no bounds; after graduating you could work as a conservationist, join the Royal Navy as a Medical technician or work at the forefront of cancer research.  The Natural Sciences Careers Expo is all about discovering what lies ahead for you.

The expo will be held in the Quad and surrounding rooms from 1-6pm on March 24th. The event is open to all students - regardless of which school you're from - and is completely free, though tickets must be booked in advanced to guarantee your place.

At the  expo, students will meet and network with diverse exhibitors from industry and academic institutions, giving them the chance to learn more about a whole host of career options. Students will also have the chance to hear from special guest speakers regarding the countless opportunities in research, post-graduate studies and non-lab based prospects, as well as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

Alongside the exhibitors, speakers and lectures, a team of employability experts will be on hand to offer one-to-one sessions and give honest, constructive feedback on CVs, advising students on writing the perfect cover letter, tailoring your CV for specific industries and the specifics of applying for positions abroad.

The expo is the first of it's kind in Middlesex history, and has been organised by the Natural Sciences Academic Society in collaboration with the Institute of Biomedical Science. NATSOC was set up in 2013 by MDX science students who wanted to engage their peers academically and help improve their employability prospects. NATSOC hope that by bringing together a select group of organisations under one roof, students can better explore where their science degrees could lead them. Zeshan Ahmend, NATSOC President, explained his motivations for organising the expo:

“Having nearly completed my degree course, I have reached a stage where I need to start thinking ‘what’s the next step?’ It is scary to think in a few months’ time we will all suddenly be plunged into the job market, without really having considered what all of our options are. That is why we have decided to organise this careers fair; so that we can bring some assurance to our future prospects, and when we do begin applying we are better-prepared and hopefully more successful.”

NATSOC will be announcing speakers, lectures and the exhibiting organisations over the coming days. Keep up to date by finding NATSOC on Facebook and Twitter, or by keeping an eye on the event page here.
