Have you heard about the MDXSU Elections?

Whether you’re standing for a position or just voting, the MDXSU Elections can have a considerable impact on your life as a student (and for those who follow in your footsteps), so it’s really important you know what they’re about.

The MDXSU Elections are when Middlesex students vote on who will lead their Students’ Union for the coming year, representing students at MDX and nationwide. And one of those student leaders could be you. There are several positions open for election, from full-time paid roles like our President to part-time positions to fit in around your studies.

Nominations open Monday 25th January and close on Friday 19th February. Read on to find out more!

Being a Student Officer

Imagine spending the next year being paid to lead an organisation with over 18,000 members? Where your decisions will help improve the lives of students, and your actions will have the power to change lives at university and beyond?

That’s exactly what our Student Officers do. The President and three Vice Presidents of MDXSU are responsible for the direction and work of the Students’ Union. They have a key say in university decisions, making sure that student voices are heard in all that the university do, as well as representing students nationally.

By the time their term as President or Vice President is over, they’ve gained the kind of skills, experience, confidence and contacts that their fellow students or graduates long for, and all because they had the courage to stand up and nominate themselves. This is truly a job like no other, and any student can nominate themselves for it, whether you’re in your final year or not. Part-time Opportunities

If you’re unable to commit full-time but are still keen to help make a difference at MDXSU while increasing your employability, why not nominate yourself for a part-time position? The commitment for these roles ranges from several times a term to once a year, but still offer you plenty of confidence-boosting, CV-building experience and the chance to meet lots of new people.

You could represent your entire School as a School Voice Leader, or attend the National Union of Students (NUS) Conference in April and meet fellow student leaders from across the country. You could help oversee MDXSU Elections as a member of our Democracy and Involvement Committee, or scrutinise our finances as a Student Trustee. For more information on our part-time positions, please head to www.mdxsu.com/elections/postions

Any registered MDX student is eligible to stand for a position, and you don’t need to have any prior experience of working at the university or Students’ Union. MDXSU will make sure you receive all the support and advice you need to stand and campaign in the election, and, if successful, you’ll receive plenty of training to make sure you can be as successful in your role as you want to be.

To find out more head to the elections pages of our website, give us an email at studentvoice@mdx.ac.uk, or come to one of our drop in sessions! Just pop down to the Students' Union any weekday 2-4pm between Monday 25th January and Wednesday 24th February and have your questions and queries answered.
