Year on year, Middlesex students have consistently highlighted the need for better quality and better value food here on campus, leading MDXSU to rank it as a top priority for campaign action. After identifying where the campus food provision falls short in comparison with other institutions and highlighting these findings at numerous top level meetings, we are delighted to be able to announce the following major improvement:

Middlesex students have diverse dietary requirements and our online survey revealed that a majority of students want more Halal options on campus. We are therefore delighted to announce that both Ni Hao and Wrap Chic will be solely Halal from this year on. This will eliminate the confusion over whether a meal is Halal or not, as going forward all meals will be Halal.

President Aman Siddiqi responded to this new by saying that ‘More Halal options on campus is something which is dear to my heart which is why I put it front and centre in my election campaign. I speak to so many students who are confused over which food outlets they can eat at. This clears it up once and for all, from now on no student will need to queue up just to establish whether or not the meals being served that day are Halal or not. It will be a huge improvement to the student experience of students who require Halal options and I congratulate Chartwells for taking the lead in this area. In addition I recognise the importance of meeting other dietary requirements and will be working tirelessly this year to ensure these are also met.’

The next steps in our campaign will focus on pushing for a fresh veg stall on campus and maintaining a pressure to reduce prices; to learn more about these initiatives and contribute to achieving further change please email MDXSU’s President, Aman at A.Siddiqi@mdx.ac.uk!
