The first Student Voice Conference of the year took place in the Quad last night, with over 200 Student Voice Leaders and their coursemates attending to discuss their experiences and start campaigning for change.

The conference on Monday 9th November began with a welcome from Middlesex Students' Union President Aman Siddiqi, followed by a presentation and Q&A session with the Vice Chancellor Tim Blackman, the acting head of Middlesex University.

Students and Voice Leaders then separated into School groups along with the MDXSU Vice President representing their School. Students discussed problems within their course and the solutions to these, focusing on six key areas - timetabling, resources, course deadlines and feedback, teaching, student development and hidden course costs.

The issues identified and the solutions proposed will enable your Student Voice Leaders, School Voice Leaders and the Students' Union to feed back to the university on what needs to be improved, while giving constructive examples of how to make this happen.

Following the School-based discussions and training sessions, conference attendees regrouped to hear from MDXSU President Aman on what your elected Student Officers have been working on so far this year, and their ongoing plans for the future.

Students then heard six 'Ideas for Change', which any student is able to submit prior to a Student Voice Conference. After the ideas are presented, Student Voice Leaders are then able to vote on whether or not the motion should be passed and made policy, mandating the Students' Union to work on the idea. At MDXSU, everything we do is lead by what students at Middlesex want, hence the use of voting and elections to make sure everything we do is in line with student views.

You can view the 'Ideas for Change' which were presented at the conference by clicking here; all six passed with a majority vote.

Thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in the discussions and voting. You're going to play an amazing role in improving Middlesex for yourselves, your coursemates and future students this year, and we can't wait to see what you will achieve.

If you attended the event, please fill in this feedback form so we can make the next conference even better. The minutes of the meeting will be available shortly; these will be emailed to you, and available on the Student Voice Leader MyUniHub page.
