The second Student Voice Conference of the year took place on Tuesday 9th February, giving Student Voice Leaders from across the university the chance to meet, discuss ideas and propose solutions to any issues they've identified at MDX.

Alongside the schools-based workshops the event also included a special housing Deal Or No Deal organised by the Shouting for Housing campaign team, where students were quizzed on their knowledge of housing and their rights as tenants.

Following this, students divided into school groups to discuss issues within their courses and schools. All these feedback has been noted, and will be collated and utilised by your elected MDXSU Student Officers and School Voice Leaders to make positive change in the future.

After the school workshops conference attendees regrouped to hear from our elected Student Officers, finding out what they have been working on and holding them to their promises.

The final part of the conference then involved voting on Ideas for Change, which can be submitted by any student prior to a Student Voice Conference, and are then voted on by Student Voice Leaders. If the motion passes and is made policy, the Students' Union is mandated to work on the idea and can be held to account on it's progress. At MDXSU, everything we do is lead by what students at Middlesex want, hence the use of voting and elections to make sure everything we do is in line with student views.

The three Ideas for Change presented were for graduation ceremonies to take place twice a year; for longer opening hours in the Grove; and for more lockers in the Grove. These were all approved. Click here to read more about the ideas and their proposed solutions.

Remember, anyone can submit an idea at any time via the Ideas for Change page on our website - if your idea receives more than 50 votes, it will be taken to Student Voice Conference to be voted on by your Student Voice Leaders, or put out as an all-student vote or referendum.

Thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in the discussions and voting. Your passion and hard work genuinely helps improve Middlesex for yourselves, your coursemates and future students. We are currently collating the minutes from the conference and will send these to you as soon as they are ready. The minutes will also be available on the Student Voice Leader MyUniHub page.
