MDXSU Buddy Programme

Starting university can be as daunting as it is exciting, which is why the MDXSU Buddy Programme is here to help new Middlesex students settle into university life.

The Buddy Programme is an informal mentoring scheme which connects Middlesex freshers with returning students.

As well as giving new starters a friendly face to turn to with their questions, they'll also have the chance to access all the knowledge, experience and tips that our returning students can pass on regarding the non-academic side to university life.

Starting university this year?

Want insider knowledge on uni life and living in London? In the first few months of settling in and finding your way around, having a bit of extra support and advice can be invaluable. Join the Buddy Programme, and you'll have someone to rely on for all your questions and queries about university and student life.

You will also be invited to join us at our Buddy events during Welcome Month, giving you the chance to get to know both your Buddy as well as other new students. These exclusive Buddy events include a Buddy Link Up and a walking tour of central London's most infamous landmarks.

Returning student?

Are you interested in becoming a Buddy to some of this year's new students? As well as the rewarding feeling of passing on your wisdom, and the warm, fuzzy glow you'll get from helping someone else, you'll also add valuable experience to your CV, particularly illustrating your communication and people skills - a necessity in in most jobs.

So, how do I benefit from this?

  • It’s an opportunity you can use to enhance your CV and contribute to increasing your employability.
  • You’ll develop transferable skills to take to the workplace – verbal communication, time management, interpersonal skills, self-management and problem solving through our training programme.
  • It means you’ll be contributing to university life while building a network, making new friends and meeting colleagues.
  • A chance to learn more about how the university works, and share your knowledge and interests to new students.
  • As well as meeting new students, you'll also get to hang out with other like-minded Buddies too

What do I need to do as a Buddy?

  • The scheme is quite flexible and is concentrated on the first few weeks of term
  • You’ll need to meet up with your new student Buddies to welcome them to Middlesex, and you'll need to be available for our Buddy Link Up and London walking tour during Welcome Month
  • Then it’s over to you to get in touch with your Buddy, and make sure they’ve settled in
  • You'll need to attend training in September - we'll email you to let you know when
