A referendum is an all-student vote which decides MDXSU policy. They are usually called by the Executive Committee to mandate the Union to work on a particular idea or issue that has been submitted by a student.
There are two referendum periods each academic year, often held in December and in April. All questions must be yes or no questions, and a referendum is passed if it achieves a simple majority (more yes votes than no votes), and a pre-determined level of students have voted. The MDXSU Democracy and Involvement Committee oversee the referendum process.
