Do you have an idea for a business or a new start-up? Enter the Barnet's Big Idea competition and have the chance to:
• Receive support and coaching from business experts
• Win thousands of pounds to put towards your business
• Showcase your ideas
This Entrepreneurial Competition promotes and develops enterprise and entrepreneurship throughout the student population of the Barnet area. Middlesex students, along with Barnet and Southgate College students, and local residents have the opportunity to showcase their ideas, be coached by business experts and win funding to develop their business.
Cash Prize
Up for grabs this year is a cash prize fund of £10,000 as well as a great selection of other business-enhancing prizes on offer, including digital marketing support, business cards and more.
The competition is in three stages with the intention of identifying the very best ideas.
Stage 1: The Elevator Pitch
The Elevator Pitch will give you two minutes to pitch your idea to independent judges, followed by a short Q&A session. The judges make their decision straight after your pitch so there's no delay in finding out if you've been successful. If you have, congratulations - you can progress through to the next round.
Stage 2: The Plan
In Stage Two you'll be offered workshops and support to develop your business ideas. There will be four two-hour workshops held on our Hendon campus and hosted by experts from Santander throughout February 2020.
You'll be encouraged to use a Business Model Canvas to work on your business and help you understand a business model in a straightforward, structured way. Using this great tool can lead to insights about the customers you serve, what value propositions are offered through what channels, and how your company makes money.
You'll also be asked to send a detailed plan and explanation for your business with information taken from the working canvas document. The submitted Business Model Canvas and business plans will be reviewed and assessed by independent judges and three finalists will be chosen.
Stage 3: The Final
Well done on getting to the final! Before the final, you'll have the opportunity to get support, one-to-one mentoring, pitching workshops and practice to ensure you're ready for your Big Idea Pitch!
On the night, you'll go head-to-head and have five minutes to pitch your idea in front of a live audience and panel of expert judges. You'll then have a Q&A session about your business from the judges.
The judges will deliberate and select their winner, who will be announced on the night. The final will be hosted on Thursday 2 April 2020.
