MDXSU echoes the voices from around the world expressing shock, anger and sadness as fighting continues in Ukraine after Russia’s invasion. We’re disappointed that after decades of work since the second world war to learn from past mistakes and fortify against them in the future has failed. Here we are again seeing, not a civil war, but an invasion on a sovereign state in defiance of the rest of the world.

We want to acknowledge and show our continued support to our Ukrainian and Russian student & staff and all those who have been impacted by this humanitarian crisis and we are actively working with our University to provide direct support. If you are being affected by this ongoing crisis, continue reading to find out how to gain support or learn how to offer support. Middlesex University is a community built on kindness, compassion and understanding and as ever we would encourage students to treat each other with respect.

As reported by Amnesty International, Russian military has shown blatant disregard for civilians' lives in Ukraine, and MDXSU are clear in our condemnation of recent attacks in Kyiv and Kharkiv that has left many vulnerable. We share the belief that all citizens, no matter where they are in the world, have a right to live peacefully, and not live in fear of war and violence.

With this belief, we stand with Ukraine during these distressing times, and this is how you can too:

Stay informed

It can be difficult to stay up to date and aware about issues that aren’t directly impacting your life, but it’s important to stay informed to make sure you have the correct information. Online misinformation can easily occur, so it’s important you know what is true. www.GlobalCitizens.org is a great place to start.

Donate items at Middlesex University

We are coordinating the collection and delivery of clothing, medical supplies, and food to be sent to those affected by the fighting in Ukraine. Donate at donations points on campus, happening on:

1. Thursday 3rd of March in VG07 (Vine Building) from 10am until 4pm

2. Friday 11th March in CG09 (College Building) from 10am until 4pm

Click here for more information on what items that can be donated.

Write to your local MP

International pressure can have influence on the current situation in Ukraine, and it is our right to use our voices to influence change. You can write to your local MP and get them to raise this in their positions of power

We have written to our MP, Matthew Offord – the MP for Hendon – to demand that further action to be taken to stop the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, and we urge you to do that same.
