On Tuesday 4th of March 2025, the Middlesex University Islamic Society (ISoc) had the honour of hosting one of the most heartwarming and spiritually uplifting events of the year —The Big Iftar. Held during the blessed month of Ramadan, the evening brought together over 240 attendees from all walks of life, including students, staff, local community members, and interfaith partners.
The event, held in collaboration with the Barnet Interfaith Community, was a true celebration of unity, compassion, and shared humanity. It served as a space for reflection, community bonding, and mutual understanding values that lie at the heart of Ramadan and our work as a society.
From the beautifully recited Adhan and Qur’an recitation by our ISoc President, to the warmth and energy brought by the children from Hill Academy, every moment of the evening was filled with joy and meaning. The presence of our guests and the shared spirit of togetherness made the Big Iftar a truly special occasion.
A joint speech was delivered by our Head Sister ( Samah Ghanem) and ISoc President (Hanzala Qadir) , with the Head Sister opening the address, sharing heartfelt reflections on the spirit of Ramadan, the importance of serving for the sake of Allah, and the incredible teamwork that brought this event to life. Speaking in front of a crowd of 240 people was no easy task, but both speeches resonated deeply and left a lasting impact on everyone present.
We are incredibly proud of the work that went into organising this event. The entire ISoc team worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and every member played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the Big Iftar. It was a true team effort, and we are grateful to have such a committed and passionate group of individuals driving our work forward.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:
• Middlesex University for supporting initiatives that celebrate and uplift the Muslim community on campus,
• The Barnet Interfaith Community for their continued partnership and support, especially Sr Monna Rizvi , whose collaboration was central to this event,
• And to every single guest who attended and shared in this special evening with us.
May Allah accept everyone’s efforts and continue to bless us with opportunities to build bridges, strengthen our community, and serve with sincerity.
