Students running events and socials should have the opportunity to advertise around Platt Halls and Usher using posters or infographics. To achieve this, and minimise paper waste and clutter, I would like to give all students access to one of the many poster boards or create a specified student events board to advertise student led events alongside events ran by the Halls, Resident assistants and the SU.

We have exposed that there is no easily accessible process to advertise student led events such as sports socials and societies events at halls, students should have more control over what is advertised at halls as for many of mdx students this our home. This would also open a dialogue to have SU sanctioned student led events advertised in kitchens and social spaces as well as on events boards and then removed once the event has taken place.

With the growing use of online and social media promotion, we recognise that physical media is still an effective way to generate interest for our events and our goal is to use many different marketing channels to generate interest for student led events -owing to our wider goal of building a community within the university that outlasts us even after graduation. To make sure future students will be aware of and have access to the events board we would like to create a portal or submission system via the SU for any student to submit their potential poster to be checked for appropriacy by the SU and MDX accomodation and then distributed around halls. We should be advertising this events board portal to students when they join the university, join the sports committee or join a society. This will not only benefit current students but create a system available for new students when they join Middlesex University.

In Summary, I am suggesting: 

• A poster and events board at halls for student led events

• A student submission system on the SU website or via the SU office to submit events ideas and posters for the events board

• The opportunity to have approved posters placed in kitchens and social spaces within halls via this student submission system

Signing this petition will start the process to give student organisers at halls a place to submit their posters and supporting this petition will show Southern Housing that promoting these events will benefit Middlesex Students at little inconvenience to Southern Housing.
