SOS Look After Your Mate training

As part of Raquel Marques Mental Health Campaign, SOS (Stressed Out Students) will provide alternative stress relief methods to practice alongside, in the interim, or to prevent the need for more traditional mental health practices (e.g. counselling therapy). Find full event listings here.

LOOK AFTER YOUR MATE TRAINING

WHAT: Look After Your Mate empowers students to support friends experiencing mental health difficulties. For students, navigating university life can be tricky at times and we know how important it is for an individual to reach out to their friends in times of need. We want students to feel confident in supporting their friends and feel comfortable confiding in each other.

  • An overview of student mental health and the challenges that students face.
  • An overview of the Look After Your Mate workshop. Based on the Look After Your Mate guide for friends, the workshop covers an introduction to student mental health and the student experience, understanding when a friend may be struggling, communication techniques, signposting and boundaries, self-care and looking after yourself whilst supporting a friend.
  • Developing trainer skills.

WHO: This session will be run by our very own Support Services Ella Potter on behalf of Student Minds mental health charity.
