Have you registered to vote in the general election? Registering could make a difference to your future, and Middlesex media students have made it their mission to explain why.

Students from the MDX media department have helped nearly 500 Middlesex students register to vote already, and are now offering free, interactive workshops to give students the chance to find out more about the general election on May 7th. Come along and you’ll also get a free drinks voucher to use on campus!

Only 44% of 18-24s voted in the last general election in 2010, and that figure only counts registered voters, not those who didn't register at all. This matters because politicians write policies for the people who will vote - the people who will help them get elected.

In contrast, almost all over-65s are registered, and the vast majority will have their say on voting day. As things stand, if you were a party looking for votes, would you focus on tuition fees or EMA, or on policies designed for the older generation? To counter this, you need to at least register.

Despite what politicians may think, young people do care about their future. Pop along to a workshop and find out how to make your voice heard.  The workshops last 40 minutes and are running throughout the next fortnight on Wednesday 11th March, Thursday 12th March, Wednesday 18th March and Thursday 19th March.

You can register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - you must register by April 20th in order to vote in the general election on May 7th.
