Six Reasons Not to Miss Summer Shutdown

Monday 15-05-2017 - 11:00

It's the biggest event of the MDX calendar, and the final event of your year... Summer Shutdown arrives on campus this Wednesday 17 May!

Aside from the fact that this is the perfect excuse to celebrate the end of the year with your friends (ormaybe even the end of your time at MDX), and aside from the fact that we've upgraded our first summer event last year to PERFECTION...here are our six (other) big reasons that this event is not one to miss.

1. Big Name Headliners

Radio 1 and 1Xtra's legendary MistaJam is bringing his unrivalled knowledge of pop, RnB, grime, hip hop and more, and is joined by MOBO-winning star Nadia Rose (Stormzy's cousin, don't you know). Both are playing at big festivals this year, and you can see them shutdown our very own campus for just £20 if you buy now. View the full line up here.

2. SILENT DISCO

Our silent disco was buzzing last year, and for good reason. Not only does it take place in a magical disco igloo, but you get three channels of tunes, so if you're not feeling the current song, you'll always have two other options. Having headphones on also encourages the most outlandish dancing and least inhibited singing (whip off your headphones to appreciate fully...)

3. Truly delicious food

Is a party even a party without FOOD? Pick up the most mesmerising morsels, tastiest treats and pengest munch from the Summer Shutdown food court, featuring Indian street food, incredible ice-cream and the best bratwurst this side of Germany. Click here for more food and drink info.

4. Dress up, glitter up!

Unfortunately, it's not everyday you can get dressed up and sparkly, especially during exam season (BOO). Dress in your best to celebrate the end of year, and consider paying a visit our festival face-painting station in MDX House to upgrade your look.

5. See campus from a whole new perspective

We don't just mean transforming your uni with a #SummerShutdown makeover - you can literally see campus from a new angle from the Ferris Wheel! Sit back and chill as you look out across the site, or spin your seat a full 360 degrees (at speed...) for a more adrenaline-heavy experience. Watch it in action on YouTube or Facebook.

6. The biggest event for the lowest cost

We don't make any profit from Summer Shutdown - every penny from ticket sales goes straight back into funding the event, meaning the amount you pay is the very minimum for the maximum event. BARGAIN. Other Summer Balls cost upwards of £40, so you're basically saving at least £20 before you even get inside the entrance #nice

Still not got your ticket? Click here to purchase online now.

Visit the MDXSU Welcome Desk to trade your e-ticket for your wristband (they look GREAT), orbuy wristbands direct from the Welcome Desk with cash or card. We're open 10am-4pm weekdays.

We'd recommend purchasing in advance to save £5 and save your place, but there will be limited tickets on the door (£20 before midnight, £25 after, last entry 1.30am).
