Every 15 minutes, someone in the UK is told that they are losing their sight. Technology can make life much easier for people with sight loss, but getting started can be a real challenge to those who are having to adapt to life without vision - especially if they weren't particularly technically minded to begin with.

You can make a difference. Join the Royal National Institute of Blind People in providing valuable support and helping make technology accessible to all.

The RNIB are currently seeking internet-savvy and technologically minded students to join their Technology Support Squad, helping people with sight loss to use computers, mobile phones and other gadgets for work, leisure and keeping in contact. By giving a little time, you can make a big difference to someone’s life, while gaining experience and skills that impact yours too.

Online Skills Trainer: Would you like to help people with sight loss explore the options of getting online? Could you share your knowledge and enthusiasm to help people engage with technology? You will show people how to use a computer, tablet or smart phone to get online, deliver group training and demonstrations and visit people in their home to help them with basic online skills.

IT Specialist and Online Support: Do you have skills and experience in IT, smartphones and tablet technology? Put your problem solving skills and expertise to use by supporting people with sight loss to use their computers, tablets and smartphones. We need you to trouble shoot problems, set up devices and provide basic guidance for people with sight loss to use technology and get online.

Technology and online support: Are you passionate about the power of technology? Do you believe that technology should be accessible to all? We need you to help people with sight loss to set up, troubleshoot and provide guidance on using technology in their house. You will provide support with a wide range of equipment, from TVs and mobiles to talking book players and e-readers.

You'll help those requiring assistance who live in your local area by visiting people in their homes or supporting group training and demonstrations locally. Training and support are provided and expenses are covered. To apply or find out more about the above positions, click on the links within the titles. RNIB are also seeking volunteers and fundraisers within other areas – head to www.rnib.org.uk/volunteering for more information.
