Joe's Blog: Six Reasons to march to defend your education on #Nov19

Monday 14-11-2016 - 10:30

By Joe Cox, Vice President Art & Design and Media & Performing Arts

On Saturday 19th November, thousands of students from across the country will be marching in central London to say unequivocally, that enough is enough.

The #Nov19 United for Education National Demo is all about good quality education being affordable and accessible for all, and here are six reasons you should be there.

1. Because demonstrations are really fun!

Seriously - standing up for something really important with loads of like-minded people isn't just really empowering, it also makes for an incredible atmosphere.

2. Making a positive impact

When Nelson Mandela was freed in 1990, this was in part thanks to student protests in the UK. This is your chance to take something you're unhappy about and actively do something to change it.

3. The clever placard slogans

Get your best puns and cleverest statements and come along to one of our placard making sessions in the Quad on Monday 14th and Friday 18th 11am - 3pm. More details here.

4. The free MDXSU vuvuzela!

We're all about making some noise. We’ll be handing vuvuzelas out on the day when we all meet at the College Building at 10.30am on the day.

5. The obligatory demo selfie

Hello 17 year old me...

6. Marching alongside thousands of other students, standing up for what you believe in and fighting to make a positive change

Our education is being marketised, our rights are being taken away. As they try to put up our fees, take away our grants, turn our learning into a commodity to be bought and sold; we need to stand together and say enough is enough.
