Our Stance: Calling for No detriment policy and safety measures for students.
MDXSU is calling for a No Detriment policy and Safety Net measures for students, in light of the new national lockdown.
On January 15th, the
Student Officer team met with Academic Registry to outline support measures for students to ensure their grades are safeguarded and not disadvantaged by the recent national lockdown. Similar to the first lockdown, the team is calling for a no detriment policy* and a number of safety measures to ensure that you are supported in your studies. This is in line with a growing number of institutions around the country who have announced their versions of no detriment policies.
Other measures MDXSU is calling for include adjustments and support for assessments and coursework taking place, extenuating circumstances, and flexibility and consideration to be a part of decision making, more so for students from certain communities at MDX. Other calls are for appropriate communication standards from the University team to ensure students are given enough time to plan if there are any changes to the administration of their courses.
We are proud to represent a community of students who are doing their best under extraordinary circumstances. Those students who are working on the front line, saving lives and administering vaccines. Others, who are volunteering in their local area, teaching in schools, and working to ensure essential services are delivered. We are aware that this is a slower approval than we initially hoped for, but we wanted to ensure that what we are asking for is appropriate for the community that we serve and represent. We know that this is an incredibly challenging time for some in the community and we hope that our asks are given appropriate consideration, approval, and implemented as soon as possible by the University.
Please
contact MDXSU if you have any concerns you would like raised, questions answered, or if there is an area that we have overlooked.
We will update with you with any changes or progress on this as soon as we can. We look forward to welcoming you back onto campus soon!
Stay Safe!
*A ‘No Detriment’ policy ensures that students will not be penalised for any dip in their academic performance relating to assessments undertaken during the Covid-19 mitigation arrangements. It will ensure that students’ final grades cannot fall below a students’ previous average, as long as they achieve a pass. Grades will still be able to rise if their grades are improved as a result of their performance in assessments taken during the disruptions.
