The MDXSU Awards are our way of celebrating the amazing students at Middlesex, recognising their impact and achievements over the past academic year.

The MDXSU Awards ceremony takes place at the end of the academic year, and includes a three-course meal and entertainment, as well as the results of the awards.

Nominations for this year's awards are now open, with nominations welcome from students, staff and external partners until Sunday 22nd March.

The Awards

Community Contribution Award

This set of awards recognises students and student groups who have made a positive contribution to either a specific community or liberation group on campus, the wider MDX community or the local community.

This includes students who:  

  • Self-define into one of our 7 student communities (Mature, International, Student Parents and Carers, Commuters, Postgraduates, Healthcare or Erasmus and Exchange Students) 
  • OR self-define into one of our 4 liberation groups: Black Students, LGBT+ Students, Disabled Students or Women Students) 
  • OR have had a positive influence on the local community through engaging in the Community Placement Scheme

Outstanding Contribution to Student Life

The judges in this category are looking to celebrate a student who has made an outstanding contribution to student life at MDX and helped others to make the most of their time here. 

We are looking for a student who: 

  • Has encouraged, empowered and inspired their peers 
  • Has made a real positive impact at Middlesex University 
  • Has developed and shown excellent leadership skills 
  • Has passion, enthusiasm and dedication 

Student Group of the Year

This award celebrates the hard work of our amazing societies and liberation groups, the impact they make on student life at Middlesex – organising events, leading campaigns and providing opportunities for students to meet new people or learn new things.

The winning group will have:

  • Reached new students with teh aim of being inclusive to all
  • Listened to their members and taken initiative to put on a variety of events, especially innovative and/or inclusive activities
  • Remained active and visible on campus throughout the year
  • Collaborated with other groups to put on activity for students
  • Held a high level of professionalism in all aspects of their role

Best New Society

Every year, MDXSU supports students to set up exciting new societies relating to their studies, interests, background or beliefs.

This award will recognise a society which:

  • Has been established or re-established after a period of inactivity* within the past academic year (2019-20)
  • Has shown dedication and innovation in reaching new members and getting the group up and running
  • Has put on a number of successful events and activities for their members or the wider student community, perhaps even collaborating with other student groups

*Inactivity counted as at least one academic year

Student-Led Event of the Year

Every year, students organise hundreds of events for the Middlesex University community to enjoy – from socials to exhibitions, guest lectures to unforgettable parties.

This award is to recognise a student or student group who delivered an event which:

  • Was successful in terms of attendance, the experience of guests and the aims of the event
  • Showed innovation and creativity, with attention to inclusivity and the diverse membership of our student body
  • Demonstrated excellent project management and organisational skills

(Examples of events include socials, clubnights, guest speaker lectures, employability events, campaign activity, trips, exhibitions)

Student Voice Leader of the Year

This award recognises the work of a Student Voice Leader within each faculty who has spent the year working hard to make changes for students at Middlesex.

We’re looking for a Student Voice Leader who has:

  • Engaged with the students they represent, gathering feedback and keeping their coursemates informed
  • Worked with their department leaders and academic staff
  • Made positive changes on their course and contributed to student life at MDX
  • Engaged with training and other opportunities offered by MDXSU

Outstanding Contribution to Student Media

This award recognises students who have made an outstanding contribution to student media at Middlesex.

We're looking for a student who contributes to The Echo, SMTV, MDX FM or to the events, marketing or general development of Student Media who has:

  • Been dedicated and reliable 
  • Demonstrated creativity and talent 
  • Shown passion for Student Media
  • Encouraged or inspired others
