Our By-Laws

MDXSU's by-laws are the governing rules and regulations that dictate the structure and operations of the students' union within Middlesex University. 
 
These by-laws typically cover essential aspects such as the criteria for membership, the structure and duties of executive positions, procedures for elections, guidelines for meetings, financial management including budgeting and fundraising, the formation and roles of committees, the process for amending by-laws, a code of conduct for members, and provisions for dissolution if needed. Complaints Procedure

Suppose you are seeking to raise a complaint against Middlesex Students' Union. This could be a complaint about elected representatives, staff, policies, processes, or a student group. To submit a complaint, please first read through this document
 
If you are seeking to raise a complaint about the University, such as if something has negatively affected your experience or will because the service that was provided by Middlesex University has not been of a good standard, please contact the MDXSU Advice Service.
 

Equity and Inclusion Policy

MDXSU is committed to ensuring the equality of outcomes for its members, employees, and volunteers at all times and in all spheres of the Union’s operation.
 
MDXSU will not tolerate discrimination on the grounds of age, ability or disability, ethnic origin, caring or parental responsibilities, gender or gender identity, HIV status, marital status, nationality, opinions or beliefs on matters such as religion and politics, physical appearance, race, sexual orientation, spent or irrelevant criminal convictions, trade union affiliation, employment status, socio-economic background, medical condition, full or part-time student status, mental health status, campus or mode of academic study, or any other irrelevant distinction. Download the Equity & Inclusion Policy here.
 

External Speaker Policy

‘External speaker’ is any individual or organisation who is not a student or staff member at Middlesex University or MDXSU, and is coming to speak at MDXSU’s event (including society events). MDXSU's Code of Conduct

The minimum standards of conduct and behaviour expected by individual members both in-person and online and the procedures to be followed in the case of disciplinary action are set out in our Code of Conduct

 

Health and Safety Policy

MDXSU is to provide and maintain, as far as reasonably practicable, safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and work systems for all employees, students, contractors and visitors and provide such information, training, and supervision as they need for this purpose. Privacy, Data Protection, and Security Policy

MDXSU is committed to protecting the privacy, data, and security of its members and stakeholders. This policy outlines the measures and guidelines implemented by MDXSU to ensure the protection of personal information, comply with data protection laws, and maintain a secure environment for all data processing activities. Reserves Policy

As defined by the Charity Commission, ‘reserves are that part of a charity’s unrestricted funds that are freely available to spend on any of the charity’s purposes. This definition excludes restricted income funds and endowment funds, although holding such funds may influence a charity’s reserves policy. Reserves will also normally exclude tangible fixed assets such as land, buildings, and other assets held for the charity’s use. Safeguarding Policy

MDXSU is a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for the benefit of all students and visitors, both face-to-face and virtually. The Safeguarding Policy aims to promote the wellbeing of everyone who comes into contact with its staff, elected officers, representatives, and volunteers. Volunteer Policy

MDXSU's commitment to our volunteers and volunteering opportunities by setting out how volunteers should be treated, what they can expect from the Students’ Union and what we expect from them. This policy does not apply to students who are volunteering with charities and community groups, where responsibility for these volunteering opportunities resides with the organisation themselves. Code of Practice

The Code of Practice outlines Middlesex University's Board of Governors' efforts to follow the Education Act 1994, Part II. The aim is to ensure the Middlesex University Students’ Union operates fairly, democratically, and manages its finances responsibly.
