Goodbye from your Student Officer Team 2022/2023

As the academic year comes to a close, we, the 2022/2023 student officers at Middlesex University's Students' Union, want to take a moment to reflect on our time in these roles. Serving as student officers has been an incredible journey filled with challenges, accomplishments, and valuable lessons. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to represent the student body and make a positive impact on campus life.

Throughout our tenure, we have strived to address various concerns and advocate for the best interests of the students. One of our key focuses was assisting students with their fees and living costs. Recognising the financial burdens many students face, we worked tirelessly to support initiatives such as the Student Cost of Living Crisis (SCLC) group. We advocated for more flexible instalment plans, ensuring that international students were not disadvantaged due to fee payments and we also provided immediate support by working closely with the university and launching free food on campus four times a week.

Additionally, we took it upon ourselves to represent the university on a national scale. In the face of rising antisemitism, we felt compelled to take a stand. We engaged in parliamentary discussions on the issue, ensuring that the voices of Middlesex University's students were heard.

Another significant milestone we achieved was the successful submission of the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Recognising the importance of providing quality education, we dedicated ourselves to collaborating with faculty and staff to ensure that Middlesex University consistently met the highest standards of teaching.
Mental health and well-being were central to our agenda. We initiated campaigns to raise awareness about mental health issues and collaborated with the university's support services to ensure students received timely assistance.

Additionally, we focused on improving the Residential Assistant scheme in university halls by providing training on diversity and mental health, ensuring a supportive living environment for all residents.

Beyond these specific initiatives, our team also dedicated ourselves to fostering a culture of leadership and inclusivity. We firmly believe that every student has the potential to be a leader. By encouraging active participation and providing platforms for student engagement, we aimed to empower individuals and nurture their leadership skills.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the entire Middlesex University community. Without your support, none of our accomplishments would have been possible. We are immensely proud of the positive changes we have initiated, and we hope our efforts have had a lasting impact on student life at Middlesex University.

As we pass the torch to the next generation of student officers, we encourage them to continue building on the foundation we have laid. Leadership is a constant journey of growth, learning, and adaptability. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and always remember that the ultimate goal is to serve and empower your fellow students.

Thank you once again for an incredible year. We will cherish the memories, the friendships, and the lessons learned.
