MDXSU’s Year in Review 2025/26

Wednesday 22-04-2026 - 10:54

As the academic year comes to a close, it's the perfect time to look back on everything that has happened across Middlesex University and MDXSU over the past few months.

This year began with a fresh sense of change as students returned to a refurbished MDX house, brought to life as a result of one of the Student Officer campaigns from the year 2024/25. The updated space quickly became a central hub for activities on campus, setting the tone for the months ahead alongside a sense of excitement about what the new team of Student Officers would bring to the year. Across the year, around 390 events were hosted, with the majority taking place within this new space, highlighting its role at the heart of student life.

Initiatives like the Experience Fund helped ensure that these opportunities were accessible to as many students as possible, covering costs such as tickets and transport so that experiences like trips to Thorpe Park and Brighton could be enjoyed without financial barriers.

One of the most significant moments of the year came during elections season, which brought a new level of spice, energy and engagement to campus. A total of 2,786 students took part in voting, casting 7,925 votes across four roles, with 54.6% of voters engaging across all positions. These figures highlight a strong level of participation and demonstrate the importance of student representation within MDXSU. Alongside this, the return of the MDXSU Awards celebrated the achievements of both students and staff across 11 categories, recognising the individuals and groups who have made a meaningful impact on the MDX community this year.

Through surveys, conversations and initiatives like Speak Week and Spill the Tea, we were able to gather insight into what was working and what could be improved. This led to real, visible change on campus including the introduction of the first Halal Subway at a UK university for the year 2026/27.

This year also saw impactful work from our Education Officer, who focused on supporting students throughout their academic journey. Initiatives like Stressbusters were introduced to help students during exam season, offering a range of events, study groups, advice support and free study fuel to ease pressure during busy periods. Alongside this, psychoeducation workshops were developed to further support student wellbeing, and lecture capture was successfully approved for the next academic year, meaning all lectures will be recorded to improve accessibility and support different learning needs.

As the year begins to wind down, the focus shifted towards celebrating the end of the academic journey, with final events like the upcoming Boat Party and a last Throwback Thrift, which is the last chance to purchase discounted merch this academic year.

Looking back, this year at MDXSU has been shaped by our community. Representing your interests has been at the heart of everything and it has been reflected in the changes made on campus, the opportunities created, and the ways students have been able to shape their own university experience.

As we head into summer, we hope you have a well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year!
