Middlesex University Students’ Union would like to say a BIG thank you to all the students that helped us raise an incredible £17,785 for RAG!

For those of you that don’t know what or who RAG is, RAG (“Raise and Give”) is the student led, official fundraising society of MDXSU, who host responsible fundraising activities alone and in collaboration with other societies in an effort to make a difference in the local community and raise money for specific charities. Students also have the opportunity to get involved with other exciting activities, such as volunteering abroad, taking part in endurance challenges, or even climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!

All while at the same time contributing to really important causes, including The Malala Fund, Rethink Mental Illness and Royal Free, which have all raised outstanding amounts of money thanks to the massive contribution of 2753 MDX final-year students who took some time out of their busy schedules to complete the NSS survey. With each completed survey, Middlesex University donated £5 on each students behalf to one charity of their choice out of the following three:

The Malala Fund

A charity dedicated to giving girls in war/poverty stricken countries a chance to receive a quality education, created by activist for female education Malala Yousafzai

“I chose the Malala fund because I want MDXSU to be a part of the international fight for women’s education. All of MDXSU, brothers, sisters and non-binary siblings coming together to give a voice to those who are too often spoken over” – RAG Member

Rethink Mental Illness

A charity that offers a diverse range of mental health services, including but not limited to support groups for those suffering with mental health issues and mental health training for those who want a better understanding of mental health and how they can help somebody suffering.

“A charity that helps millions of people affected by mental illness by challenging attitudes, changing lives. They have helped me and the people around me not only accept ourselves and provided help through people with real understanding, but also raise awareness to those ignorant to the difficulties living with mental illness bring.” – MDX Student

NHS Royal Free

A charity that raises money for multiple hospitals, including Royal Free Hospital, Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital so they have the best possible care for all patients.

“The Royal Free/Barnet/Chase Farm Charity approached the Student Union and RAG with amazing fundraising opportunities for our students that we hope to implement this year and next. They have a real dedication to fundraising and especially within student communities!” – Megan Bastable (Student Group Coordinator SU)

How much was raised for each charity?

The Malala Fund – £8,555
Rethink Mental Illness – £,5225
NHS Royal Free – £4,005

The money raised by Middlesex University students will greatly help these charities continue their heroic work in assisting those in need, but it doesn’t stop there! There are many ways you can help RAG and the charities it supports, and you can find out how by staying in the loop with all things RAG! This includes following RAG on social media platforms, meeting the RAG team at this year’s Fresher’s Fair on the 25th and 26th of September, or by becoming a member of the RAG Society yourself!

You can find details for all of this at the bottom of this article! So if you want to be a part of the change and truly make a difference in the local community then look no further than RAG, Middlesex University Student’s Union’s answer to raising money for well deserving causes.
