Standing With Our Jewish Community Following the Attack in Australia

Wednesday 17-12-2025 - 12:01

We are shocked and saddened by the recent attack in Sydney, Australia, during Hanukkah, which has deeply affected members of the Jewish community during a significant religious period.

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this incident and especially Jewish communities in Australia and beyond. We share the distress felt by our Jewish students, staff, and wider community, many of whom may be experiencing shock, fear, or anxiety in response to this incident.

We recognise that events such as this can feel particularly close to home for some, and we want to remind our community that support is available:

  • MDXSU Advice Service – for free, confidential, independent advice and wellbeing support for students, visit www.mdxsu.com/advice

  • MDX Care and Concern – for urgent support within the University’s working hours or to discuss available support options, email CareandConcern@mdx.ac.uk

  • Here to Hear - Your voice matters, and we're always listening. If you need anything, fill out this short survey, and we will get back to you.

We encourage anyone who is struggling or who is concerned about a friend, student, or colleague to reach out for support.

As a Students’ Union, we stand united against antisemitism, hatred, and violence in all its forms. We remain committed to working with Jewish students and staff to ensure Middlesex continues to be a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone.

With compassion,
Mohit Vyasam, President of Middlesex University’s Students’ Union
