Today, your new Student Officer team that was elected in February 2023 have officially started their term and if you want to learn more about who they are, keep on reading!
 
This year, your new student leaders’ roles have changed a bit. From roles based on their faculty, to now, Student Officers focus on specific topics - Equity & Inclusion, Community & Citizenship, Academic Experience and Social Justice. The President role remains the same, representing all Middlesex students at the University and nationally at all levels.
 
 

Sagar Joshi

Sagar’s priorities:

• Financial Support - Implement financial assistance programs to address the cost-of-living crisis faced by students, including increasing the availability of bursaries, scholarships, and emergency funds specifically designed to support students in need.

• Employability Support - Advocate at a national level for policies to increase working hours for international students, that recognise their valuable contributions and desire to gain practical experience alongside their studies

• Mental Health - Enhance the support system that addresses the wellbeing of all students, providing easy access to counselling services, support groups, and workshops on stress management, self-care, and resilience

 

Jay Suryavanshi

Jay’s priorities:

• Student Media - relaunch MDXSU's Student Media platform, offering a diverse range of student-led media outlets, such as newspapers, magazines, podcasts, and online platforms, to amplify student voices and provide a platform for creative expression and meaningful conversations

• Equity & Inclusion - Promote equity and inclusivity within the student experience, ensuring that all students have equal access to resources, opportunities, and support systems, regardless of their background or circumstances

• Employability - Creating more job opportunities and internships tailored to MDX students' interests and career aspirations, offering valuable experience and professional growth

 
 

Sukritha Pothaganti

Academic Experience Officer

Sukritha’s priorities:

• Academic Support – Encourage and support a wider range of student-led campus projects, providing resources, and funding to empower students in initiating and implementing their own learning in the classroom into innovative initiatives that enhance the campus community.

• Disability Support – Implement an accessibility plan to increase inclusivity and support for disabled students, including enhancing physical infrastructure, technology, and resources to ensure equal access to educational opportunities, facilities, and services.

• Employability – Integrating employability and career development skills into the curriculum, offering workshops, seminars, and courses that equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and networks to excel in their chosen careers

 
 

Omar Numaan Khan

Community & Citizenship Officer

Omar’s priorities:

• Community Building – Creating channels for ongoing communication and feedback between the university, the students, and the local community, ensuring concerns are heard and addressed in a transparent way

• Sustaining Communities – Engaging students in sustainability-focused projects and research opportunities, providing the experience for students in developing innovative solutions and promoting sustainable practices on campus and beyond

• Communications – Improve communication channels between students and the university, facilitating open dialogue, and transparent information sharing to build trust and a sense of shared responsibility for the success of the university and students

 
 

Sahil Patel 

Social Justice Officer

Sahil’s priorities:

• Mental Health - Enhancing resources and support systems for students, specifically focusing on mental health services and facilitating clear communication channels between the university and students regarding financial aid

• Inclusive Representation - Improving the representation and empowerment of underrepresented groups, including Black liberation groups, LGBTQ+ students, and disabled students, through inclusive policies, programs, and initiatives

• Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion - Regularly assessing and evaluating the university's progress in achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and utilizing feedback from students and stakeholders to continually improve and adapt initiatives

 

 
We are sad to say goodbye to Abhishek Arora, Najiha Malik and Nathaneal Hawthorne as they did an amazing job during their time representing the students’ union, but we can’t wait to see all the amazing things the upcoming year with new officers holds for us.
